whats the best type of yoga for beginners who are very out of shape?
i am out of shape a little overweight and would like to start yoga but im a little overwhelmed by all the different kinds any suggestions
the best thing about yoga ANYONE can do it. I am sure you are referring to the flexibility issue of yoga. Go at your own pace and stretch until it is too uncomfortable. You shouldn’t be in pain but the uncomfortable part is what creates more flexibility. There are several programs on Fit channel that you can start with if you feel uncomfortable with a class. Yoga is great is so many ways but most of all for stress. Namaste!

i think the best thing to do is slow movements concentrating on WHAT FEELS RIGHT. For most things, you are the best judge of how your body is doing with any given form of excercise. If it feels like it’s strengthening you, it probably is. if this is too amorphous, i would recommend getting a yoga DVD from a fitness store and do it along with the person/persons onscreen. If you can only do the first thing, thats fine…just do that. If you can only do the first thing for a fraction of the time they do it, do that. the key is START SLOW. much more importnat than doing the exact right thing is doing SOMETHING, at least 3 days a week. i prefer to do it more, just to stay focused. even if it’s just rocking back and forth for twenty minutes, just to get your body MOVING. Also, making changes to your diet and lifestyle are good. Try removing one bad thing from your diet each week. Gradual change is easiest to maintain. and with weight loss, please be PATIENT. it takes a long time which is really annoying but just stay the course…focus on changing your behavior and not how much weight you’ve lost. you can keep a calorie journal and use web sites to tell you how many callories are in particular foods. try to find excercise that is fun for you. there are so many different types and i think it’s beneficial to vary it. Anyway, i hope this wasn’t too much but i have gotten much fitter by following these ideas. If i could sum it up, id say: Go Slow, Be Patient, Be Consistent, and keep it going even if you slip up…health should be an everyday consideration. Good luck!
