What is the best yoga class to take for beginners? My gym offers hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, and club yoga.?

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin in yoga for beginners | 1 Comment »

I don’t know what club yoga is because that’s probably something private to your club. But if this helps at all – Hatha yoga is very slow paced and focuses on your breathing and stress relief and stuff. Vinyasa is much faster paced. So I’d start with hatha and work up from there.

8 Celebrity Diet And Fitness Secrets

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin in yoga pilates | No Comments »

Celebrities always look fabulous. Whether appearing in television or films or strutting down the red carpet during movie premiers and awards, they never cease to fascinate us with their larger than life presence. The truth is, it takes a lot of effort to look the way they do, and since the fans are their paycheck, they cannot afford to slack off when it comes to taking care of their physical appearances. Their livelihood largely depends on how they look. Aside from the clothes, the hair and the makeup, celebrities have to take good care of their bodies.

So it is no surprise that these stars have their own secrets when it comes to workouts, staying fit and looking gorgeous. Their health agenda can range from extreme workouts to well-planned meals. Who doesn’t want to know their secrets in staying absolutely sexy? Here are some of the diet secrets of seven women celebrities.

1. Jennifer Aniston
The star of the phenomenal television show Friends not only mesmerized audiences with her adorable comic sense and her famous hairstyle, she was also known for having one of the sexiest bodies in Hollywood, as she appeared in countless magazine covers. To stay trim, Jennifer follows the 40:30:30 diet method. The diet consists of:

40% Low glycemic index carbohydrates
-Foods such as beans, fruits and vegetables, legume
30% lean proteins
-Tofu, fish, chicken, turkey, beef and low fat dairy products

30% essential fats
-nuts and seeds, fish and olive oils

(you can get a list of these foods in my book coming soon….)

It is essential that every meal should contain the proper balance of macronutrients to for a healthy lifestyle.

2. Kate Hudson
The gorgeous daughter of actress Goldie Hawn gained 60 pounds during her pregnancy, which she needed to shed quickly before commencing on her next film. From her previous eating plan, she switched to a higher protein diet. She consumed high protein meals in smaller portions, and she combined this diet with a workout program that includes weight training and cardiovascular workouts. After getting a lot of flak because of her post-pregnancy figure, Kate removed all that baby weight in only four months and has gained abdominal muscles that gained the envy of many in Hollywood.

3. Oprah Winfrey
As one of the most successful talk-show hosts in the world, there is no question that Oprah needs to maintain her physical appearance for her millions of audiences. Known as one of those celebrities who are constantly battling weight gain, she has recently toned up her figure and has never looked figure in age 50 by combining a regular workout regime and diet plan. Oprah works out five days a week, spending 30 minutes on the treadmill and doing free weights. Her eating plan consists of legumes, fish, nuts, fruits and vegetables, chicken and dairy products that are low-fat. She limits her consumption of white sugar and flour. Oprah also credits her trim figure to her habit of not eating anything after seven in the evening.

4. Gwyneth Paltrow
A lot of people may find it hard to believe that the perpetually slim Academy award-winning actress actually needs to diet. Not the diet in the traditional sense (such as starving for to obtain a certain weight for a special weekend) but Gwyneth actually follows a healthy eating plan that resembles Oprah’s, avoiding sugar and white flour. She usually follows a macrobiotic diet, eating foods like vegetables, brown rice, and lean meat. She also eliminated dairy from her diet, and does a yoga workout everyday.

5. Madonna
The pop star known as the Material Girl has always flaunted a body that is to die for, and has become a true fitness paragon over the years. She keeps herself in tip-top shape by having Ashtanga Yoga workout, and follows a strict diet that mostly shuns junk foods. She adopted a macrobiotic eating plan that includes organic foods rich in lean protein.

6. Claudia Schiffer
The bodacious German supermodel eats salad and steamed vegetables for dinner and eats only fruits before the afternoon. While on locations, she prefers to eat black grapes and drinks tomato juice and herbal tea.

7. Christie Brinkley
Long-time supermodel maintains her all-American good looks by being a vegetarian. She does not keep junk foods of any kind inside her home to make sure that she does not eat them when cravings occur. She snacks on sweet potatoes in place of candy bars, and she adopts a liquid juice diet when she needs to slim down fast.

8. Gabrielle Reese
The tall and sexy volleyball star did get plenty of exercise at her old job. However, now a days Gabrielle stays fit using a simple technique that many of us are familiar with….invented in the early parts the twentieth century by Joe Pilates. Gabrielle uses Winsor Pilates workout at home to keep her athletic shape. This is pretty profound when you think about it because she used to be in a highly active lifestyle for a long time, and yet she is able to keep her lean physique with a home workout course with a few simple DVDs and nothing more than a yoga mat.

Celebrities are just like ordinary people. They need to maintain their figures just like anyone else, and there is more pressure on their part since they are constantly in the public eye. Ordinary folks can have celebrity-like bodies, too, and by following certain diet and fitness plans, they can also look like red-carpet worthy.

Why Yoga Should Be a Part of Your Daily Fitness Routine

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin in benefits of yoga | No Comments »

If you would like to really put your daily fitness routine in overdrive and get better results than you ever have in the past, you really should consider adding yoga exercises into your home fitness workouts. Aerobic exercise is great for burning calories, and strength training works very well for strengthening your muscle groups. But yoga goes far beyond either of those forms of exercise and can benefit you both physically and mentally. Let’s see how.

Physical Benefits

1. Flexibility — strength training helps improve muscle mass but it does very little to improve muscle flexibility. And studies have shown that short powerful muscles are prone to injury. So one of the major benefits of yoga exercises is the prolonged stretching found in many of the yoga positions and poses.

2. Balance — especially as we get older balance becomes more critical. It also allows you to move more easily and comfortably. Most yoga positions stress some form of balance in order to maintain the position.

3. Energy level — higher levels of energy often come through higher levels of relaxation in the body. Tension on the other hand is an energy killer. Yoga exercises help lower stress and tension and and improve oxygen flow in the blood. All of that helps lead to a higher energy level.

4. Pain management — many people today suffer with chronic pain, often in their back. Much muscle pain has its roots in tension. If you can get your muscles to relax, often the pain can even disappear. This is another great benefit of the relaxation techniques found in yoga.

Mental Benefits

1. Through the yoga positions and breathing exercises you are helped to focus inward rather than on the outward distractions of your life. This introspection can help clear your mind and focus your attention on the more important things in your life.

2. Stress levels can be greatly reduced by a regular yoga exercise routine. As was already mentioned, many yoga poses and breathing techniques encourage extreme relaxation of body and mind. This can help you let go of daily stress and it’s damaging influences.

3. Yoga can help promote a feeling of inner peace and tranquility because many yoga practices encourage time for meditation, which helps you gain control over your own thinking instead of being at the mercy of negative thoughts.

As you can see, there are lots of very good reasons for including yoga exercises in your daily fitness routine. Why not start learning more about yoga right away, and put it to work for you?

Skin Care and the Secrets to Aging Gracefully

Posted on December 17th, 2009 by admin in yoga pilates | No Comments »

America is a youth-obsessed culture, no matter how you look at it, and no one over 30 wants to look or feel their age. While there is no fountain of youth, there are simple steps you can take to keep your youthful appearance and outlook as you grow older. If you feel good, you look good. So take care of your health by eating right and exercising. Make sure you have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, and keep fatty, sugary foods to a minimum. Consider adding a dietary supplement to your diet to make up for nutrients you may not be getting from your food. Drink plenty of liquids — not only will it keep you hydrated throughout the day, but it’s good for your skin. Of course, sometimes nature needs a little help from science and technology. Plastic surgery has never been more popular, with people having everything from eye lifts to breast implants and liposuction. The cosmetic industry also promises its lotions and potions will keep you looking young. Unfortunately, many of those claims aren’t supported by scientific evidence, and while they won’t do any harm, they certainly aren’t doing what they promised. One product that is backed up by scientific research is Chellá, a professional skin care line that not only makes your skin look and feel years younger, it also nourishes and helps restore your skin’s elastin properties. As we get older, our skin does not synthesize as much collagen in the dermis, or skin, as when we were young. This is thought to be the major reason for thinning skin and wrinkle formation. Chellá products naturally stimulate your existing collagen and elastins with the peptides in the patent pending Chell-x Complex. The complete product line includes Micro-Exfoliating Cleanser “Facial Purificazion,” Moisture Formula SPF 15 Morning Crema, Replenish Formula Evening Cream, Intensive Formula Eye Crema and Skin Firming Serum “Istante Beauty.” The products are available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills and online at the Chellá Web site. Exercise is also important to looking and feeling your best. Try to exercise every day — it’s good for your body, and it helps relieve stress (which can take a toll on your health and your appearance). You don’t have to run 10 miles to get the benefits of working out. Taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood after dinner is a great way to work exercise into your day. Yoga and Pilates are two forms of exercise that emphasize flexibility and core strength. Many yoga practitioners say it helps them relax and unwind. Experts also suggest working out with weights as a good way to maintain bone mass and muscle tone. Again, you don’t have to bench press 200 pounds to get the benefits of these workouts, but a few times a week with weights that are comfortable for you can make a big difference. To start your skin care regimen, order the free trial program from Chellá.Copyright © 2007, ARAcontent

Yoga And Meditation: A Healthy Combo For Healthy Life

Posted on December 17th, 2009 by admin in benefits of yoga | No Comments »

Yoga for most of the people happens to be a great source of keeping themselves fit with its incredible body postures called asana. However these asanas are only a small part of the yoga. This ancient practice of yoga boasts of its origin from ancient Vedic testaments. We tend to limit the scope of yoga by considering it a mere collection of exercises. But Vedic testaments say that it was originally meant to serve much greater purpose of unifying human souls with eternal power or God. And yoga meditation happens to be the only way of elevating your spirit so that you could unify yourself with Almighty. Your soul’s unification with Almighty brings eternal peace and tranquility to you.

If you are not performing meditation instructions of yoga along with your daily asana practice, you are likely to not get much of the yoga benefits. Different yoga practices don’t offer you separate solutions instead yoga works well when all its integral parts are practiced simultaneously in an orderly manner. This is the way yoga offers holistic health improvement. That’s why meditation must be incorporated in your yoga routine, it works as a stress buster and brings in mental rejuvenation.

Yoga offers various ways of meditation that could be performed with other yoga practice. More higher forms of yoga such as kudnalini Yoga and Raja Yoga are said to offer complex medication practices but once you get accustomed to these practices you would achieve a higher state of mind and soul. Hot yoga offers you to perform meditation in a hot or high temperature ambiance that helps you disassociate yourself from the outside world. This practice helps enhance your mental productivity.

In today’s fast moving world every one tries to improve his/her performance to keep up the pace with changes and in turn gets grappled with stress. Some of us simply perish due to our ignorance towards stress management techniques. In such a situation yoga meditation proves of immense help in stress management.

Even for weight shedding it’s not only the yoga exercise or postures but meditation and breathing techniques that combine together to give desired level of fat burning. Meditation relevance with yoga postures lies in the fact that you can’t remain physically fit if your mind remains unfit.

So there is no denying from the fact that by taking out meditation from Yoga you are simply defying the very essence of Yoga.
