How many times a week should I do pilates/yoga?

I am 14 year old girl, almost 50kg or 100 pounds(?). I’m 160cm tall. I want to take Pilates and Bikram yoga 5 times a week. Pilates on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, yoga on Tuesday and Thursday. I don’t know how many minutes. I don’t want to lose weight. I just want to be healthy and toned.

What are the benefits of yoga and/or Pilate’s?

Posted on August 27th, 2009 by admin in benefits of yoga | 2 Comments »

I am doing 2 mile walk dvd each morning, and I would like to incorporate a little more into my work out. I am courious about yoga and pilates, what are the benefits of these two workouts? Thanks

They are each a little different.

Yoga will increase your balance, as well as challange your mental awarness and breathing awarness. Afterwards you feel refreshed, flexable and awake.

Pilates is a dancers workout. Its designed to strengthen your "core" muscles…mainly your deep abs. You wont notice a 6 pack right away, but you will feel it. The benefits are great, you start using the trunk of your body more instead of relying on your stronger legs and arms. Its a lot of sit up like movements.

Both are really easy for at home viedeos because you can get ones that dont require any extra equitment, dont require fast cardio movement, or really make you feel *too* silly (all videos make us feel somewhat silly, its part of the deal, lol)

what is the recommend form of yoga for beginners?

Postpartum exercise, is it to soon to do some beginner yoga poses….?

Posted on August 27th, 2009 by admin in beginners yoga poses | 1 Comment »

I am three weeks post partum and really need to start exercising as a way to help my own body image issues. I have a history of eating disorders and am feeling quite down on myself image wise. I do not want to do anything extra strenuous and risk causing harm to myself, but I do need to start some type of exercise regimen to get myself geared up for the heavy stuff after I have my doctors ok.

I have a beginners yoga DVD and am planning on starting a nightly walking routine with my dog. I have three weeks till my checkup. After that its back to the gym for Pilates, aerobics and weight training.

Do you have any suggestions for light exercise routines that will help me get back into the groove of working out?

You can start exercising at 2 weeks pp. That is what my doctor said… He also said dont over do it though…

I am also wanting to tell you that you just had a baby and not all people go straight down to pre-pregnancy. You have a lot to worry about now being a mom, and you need to find yourself so you can respect what you look like. I had a very low self image so I know what you mean. Another thing is women tend to get depressed after baby so be careful..

I wish you luck and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

where can I go for beginners Yoga in Central London?
